CFObjective - The Day After
I'm writing up a more detailed review of CFObjective for Fusion Authority.
In short, everything was a little rough around the edges, but that is to be expected for a first year conference / first time conference organizer. I absolutely hated the hotel and hated the travel. ( None of that is a reflection of the conference, of course).
Lets start with the hotel (In no particular order):
- There was no power outlet by the desk in the room. The plug was all the way across on the other side of the room near the bed. I ended up putting the laptop on a extra table in the room. It would have been nice to sit at the desk, though
- The shower head was the lowest I've ever seen. I had to get on my knees to get my hair wet.
- There was no fitted sheet on the bed. This was T's complaint. I think it is a bit of an oddity
- There was no business center in the hotel. I would have loved to have made print-outs for my presentation (I usually like to do that) but there was no way to do so w/o walking over to the hotel across the street. I ended up not doing printouts.
- The landscape. For some reason there was only one way to get to the lobby (and the conference center). And it required a lot of walking.
- The Internet connection, while free, kept dropping out. It was an inconvenience.
- No breakfast buffet. In fact, after the first day of breakfast we were never back to the hotel restaurant. T took a bite of a waffle only to discover a white plastic thing inside it. She was pretty disgusted (and could you blame her?). The buffett at the Marriot across the street was great, though, and significantly cheaper. We ate there Sunday morning.
Back to our day, in the same style as my Day0 ramblings
4:30 am: Alarm Goes off (we got to sleep in this time). There was around 2 inches of snow.
5:00 am: Check out of hotel and get on shuttle to the airport.
5:30 am: Check in at airport.
6:00 am: find our gate and grab a quick breakfast bite
6:30 am: We are told the previous flight hasn't finished boarding left yet due to de-icing. We are going to be delayed. (Our flight leave time was 6:54)
7:30 am: We're moved to another gate
8:00 am: We board the plane
8:30 am: We are informed that the airport has closed due to weather conditions. We can't legally take off. We're just going to wait hear until the weather improves. We got to see the plane go through 2 patches of de-icing.
10:30 Take off (finally)
11:55 am: Get off Chicago plane. Theoretically we missed our connector by an hour and 10 minutes. Our connetor is a different airline. We are told we have to deal w/ that airline for rescheduling.
11:58 noon: Walk through Chicago airport from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1.
12:08 pm: Get to terminal 1 and discover that our connector flight has not left yet. It is scheduled to leave at 12:10 and currently boarding.
12:10 pm: Run through airport trying to catch connector flight.
12:11 pm: Get on connector flight (we were the last ones on).
12:15 pm: Take off. The ride was very turbelent and we hadn't eaten anything, like we planned because our chicago layover ended up being 15 minutes (not 2 hours and 15 minutes).
3:30 pm: Land in Hartford. Our luggage still hasn't shown up. (They're supposed to deliver it tonight).
I don't think I'm ever going to Minneapolis in March again (Sorry Jared).
